Natalie was able to customize the experience based on my particular interest (bamboo fencing). She is good to communicate with in advance so she can better prepare the tools, craftspeople and workshop for your session.

Natalie, her friends/family and the instructor Pak Made were absolutely amazing! I have zero carpentry skills and needed a lot of help but came away with a beautiful little table. It was hard work since I didn’t have any experience but they made it very fun and learned a lot about bamboo construction and environmental sustainability. The location at Natalie’s ornate bamboo home was magical. I enjoyed great conversations with Natalie and her house guest that was visiting from the UK. They prepared a fantastic vegetarian traditional Balinese meal that we ate together family style. I felt so welcome in their home and greatly appreciated the opportunity to experience a part of Bali that most people never see. Pak Made couldn’t have been warmer or more patient instructor. He is a true master of his trade and he gave me a whole new appreciation when I see anything constructed from bamboo. I’m very proud of the table we built and will have fond memories every time I look at it. I would recommend Natalie’s workshop to anyone that wants to experience something off the beaten path in Bali (and not afraid to roll up their sleeves and put in some work.) This was one of a kind experience for me and my two children aged 11 and 8 years old. They had hands on experience with local Indonesians and Natalie on how to use bamboo in building housing but also objects such us forks, bowls, cups. We had lots of fun.Show more

Natalie was so informative and she shared the process of how she built her bamboo home from an empty land. Even though I had to leave earlier for personal matter, I had a great time during event. One of the best airbnb experiences I have tried in Bali.
It’s amazing to learn how the bamboo house was constructed and built on a small piece of land in a dense area of Denpasar city and it makes you wonder how much more fun it would be if all buildings could carry more creativities.
For the hands-on session I made a spoon out of wood. If you are someone like me who doesn’t DIY much then I’m sure the process of making/creating something from the scrach will bring you unexpected joy like I had experienced.
Depending on your working speed, you may get more than one piece done but I’m happy with just making a very special bamboo spoon for my friend.
Natalie is a fantastic host and the experience is like doing DIY at a friend’s house. She is always there to help you if you are stuck along the way but generally she will let you to enjoy the whole process yourself. Even though spent more than the stipulated hours to finish my design but she didn’t rush me at all. Also I met Freyr as well who is a lovely girl with a great taste in music!
I enjoyed the experience from the beginning to the end. There are so many things you can learn from Natalie and Freyr so go and visit and have a wonderful time playing with bamboo:)
