A Living Model for Inclusive Regeneration in Bali

When I first arrived in Asia, I was deeply moved by how inclusive and community-oriented the culture is—especially here in Bali. I felt human and connected in a way I hadn’t experienced living in Australia.. The local Yayasan foundations that care for children with disabilities inspired me profoundly, as did the spirit of gotong-royong—a natural, cooperative sense of shared responsibility or “helping together”.

For 6 years my daughter and I lived in Denpasar and with friends, social-exchange visitors, and our local staff we built Freyr’s Bamboo Home and Freyr had great quality of life with peers and care from our community and local yayasan school Matahari Terbit Foundation. After she turned 20, and couldn’t attend school anymore, I made the difficult decision for her to return to Australia and be supported as an adult in the Disability Care system there while I developed Bamboo Creative Bali as a business and initiative to be able to include Freyr in a “post-school” program.

I dream of offering other families the same kind of help and support that we were fortunate to receive during our journey here. I believe parents and caregivers should not have to struggle alone. I envision a village environment where sustainable living, building, creativity, and inclusion are woven naturally into everyday life—a space where our children, regardless of ability, can participate meaningfully in fun activities alongside staff, carers, locals, and visitors. My next step in fulfilling this vision is in Belega village, home of the Bamboo Creative Bali Eco-School.

The Belega Bamboo Eco-School

Learning by Doing, Being in Community

Over the past two years, we’ve been building our Eco-school in Belega Village — as part of our 3 week, 3 month and VIP programs. This will be an inclusive eco-education space where me and my daughter Freyr and other families can share in daily creative life through bamboo craft, natural building, and cultural exchange.

Located just 40 minutes southeast of Ubud, our eco-school offers workshops that bring people together to learn bamboo carpentry, design, and sustainable construction directly from Balinese master craftsmen. Participants can join one-day sessions, weekend stays, or immersive multi-day programs.

Our workshop packages include:

Bamboo For Everyone:

•  Bamboo Biasa — a one-day hands-on carpentry workshop
• One Day and Night in Bali – a one-day workshop and night’s accommodation in our Radical Roundhouse or Tarzan Tower.

Bamboo For Families:

•  Bamboo Awesomeness — a three-day creative journey & 2 nights accommodation
•  Sprout to Serenade — a four-day – 3 night family-friendly course building playgrounds and musical instruments

Bamboo For Bamboo Building Enthusiasts:

•  Bamboo Immersion — a five-day six-night stay combining design, treatment, and small-structure building
•  Model Design & Mentoring — for aspiring bamboo designers and builders
• Three-Week Intensive Build — a full-scale group construction experience

Bamboo For Ever:

• Family Revivement Membership – One month a year (for 5 years) stay at our Belega Eco-school or future Sister Village Project Sites

All packages are valid for five years and can be gifted and booked flexibly.

Workshop Times: (9.30am to 4.30pm)

Inclusions: – Bamboo Carpentry Workshop and Accommodation at Bamboo Creative Bali – Belega Village Eco-School; – All tools and materials are included – Water, Tea & Coffee, Light snacks. Nanny/babysitter available.

Exclusions: Meals are additional fee and can be pre-ordered according to our Menu or sourced independently. Refrigerator available onsite.

– Bookings available from April 2026 (dates may be kept flexible or confirmed via the booking form: You will receive a voucher code and booking link once the Pre-sales period ends and bookings become live. Bookings are flexible and may be changed up to 2 weeks prior to scheduled arrival.

Revivement Village Membership gives access to any of our Revivement Village/Eco-school hubs in Bali and Africa for a one-month a year stay per year over 5 years, or consecutive months are also bookable (5 months stay in total). You get same-rate renewal as a seed-founder.

As a member you get inclusive access to any of our associate workshop programs: Learn Bamboo building and Eco-skills with families and cultures from across the world and contribute to the building of the Regenerative Villages of the Future!
