Friends of Freyr Revivement Village Family Support in Bali warmly invites families to take time out together and participate in our Inclusive Natural Learning and Cultural Activities. We welcome individuals of all abilities to engage in holistically supported experiences while exploring sustainable natural living and embracing the rich local culture of Bali.
We are currently collaborating with various organizations to create spaces where families can enjoy a natural village atmosphere – in an environment which also serves as a model for climate adaptation and skills for sustainability. Our immediate focus is on fostering connections through our Bamboo Skills Sharing program with Bamboo Resource Centre in Kenya, scheduled for January-February 2025. This initiative aims to unite people and nations in recognizing our shared bond with community bamboo building, food, farming, each other and with nature. Looking ahead, we plan to expand our network to Ghana with One Buuri Foundation, immersing ourselves in cultural traditions such as dance, music, natural medicine, and collaborative learning and the support of living as a tribal family.
We are seeking support for our proposal to establish a village pilot project on Gili Meno Island, Indonesia. The goal is to provide families with an opportunity to enjoy a holiday together while creating living environments around the world that prioritize cooperation, sharing, and connection with nature. This includes activities like growing food, harvesting and preparing meals, building, playing music, and celebrating together.

Vital Light Village- Inclusive Activities For All Abilities – Gili Meno Island
Welcome to our unique Inclusive Activity Village on the charming Gili Meno Island, close to Bali. This is our pioneer project to create a restorative environment that celebrates the joy of hands-on creation and human connection, all while having loads of fun.
At Vital Light Village, we’re all about addressing the challenges that families with high-support needs face, including social isolation and caregiver burnout. Our aim is to enrich lives and contribute to the local community through workshops, playful therapies, and sustainable projects. We believe in the power of collaboration, and with the help of volunteers, professionals, and local families, we’re building a vibrant and inclusive village environment. This isn’t just about helping families, it’s about enriching the communities of Bali and Lombok too.
We see the urgent need for supported holiday programs that allow families to bond without the usual caregiving responsibilities. For many, the lack of necessary supports can make vacations a challenge, often at the expense of their own holiday experiences. We’re here to change that. With the right care, growth opportunities, and community participation, we aim to enhance the quality of life for families and individuals with disabilities. Our approach is all about reducing exhaustion and isolation, while enabling families to share in joyous experiences together. Instead of leaving loved ones at respite centers, Vital Light Village offers inclusive and supportive holiday experiences for all.

“My dream is to cultivate a lasting, sustainable village community co-op. By teaming up with local nonprofits, families, and community members, we’re striving to forge a welcoming, supportive network. This partnership will serve as the catalyst for building physical communities collectively, rewarding everyone involved. By promoting a strong community spirit and shared accountability, we’re looking to establish a nurturing space for individuals with disabilities and their families, cherishing the unique gifts and presence of each individual… Making a lasting difference in our shared lives and breaking free from the isolation we’ve been conditioned into.”
Natalie Davenport – Founder, Bamboo Creative Bali
Welcome to Bamboo Creative Bali, your go-to spot for everything bamboo and community-centered in the heart of Bali. Our mission? To bring together a diverse group of individuals to create unique, inclusive spaces while fostering a strong sense of community and promoting eco-leadership. With our outreach programs open to everyone, from local Indonesians to international visitors, we’re all about creating a vibrant, inclusive community.
Through our Family Revivement initiative, we’re striving to create a village-like atmosphere where everyone, including those with disabilities and their families, can actively contribute and feel part of something bigger. The goal is to build a network of supportive, revitalizing villages where everyone can enjoy, contribute, and get the support they need.
We believe in the power of togetherness, which is why our programs are open to everyone, regardless of age or ability. We offer fun-filled activities that bring people together to learn about the rich Indonesian culture, unleash their creativity, and develop dexterity as well as cognitive skills, all under the umbrella of our guiding principle of “helping together”.
With a strong focus on sustainability and action-based learning, our programs not only contribute to the personal growth of participants, but also add to the collective understanding of inclusive education and sustainable living.
Ultimately, our goal is to cultivate a community that’s passionate about learning, helping, sharing, and restoring our natural health, creating a model that can inspire and be replicated in other contexts. Come join us in making this vision a reality!

Imagine a haven where individuals with disabilities and their families can unwind and relish being part of a supportive community. Drawing from personal experiences, our goal is to create a disability-inclusive village where families find the support they so richly deserve.
Our Goals:
- Inclusive Community Living: Offering Restoration and Support
- Natural Learning Environment: Contributing to Local Communities
- Care Support: Nurturing a Protective Community
- Co-Contribution and Belonging: Encouraging Interdependence
- Peace of Mind for Parents:
Our village setting fosters a sense of community and natural support, enabling families to bond and individuals with disabilities to flourish. Through participating in guided activities, individuals can contribute to local life, expanding their horizons and social interactions.
We share a vision for a sustainable and supportive living community, known as a Revivement Community. We aim to guide and assist families in crafting their own sustainable living plans, integrating them into supportive communities that prioritize well-being and environmental stewardship.
Key components of our vision include safe living spaces, engaging activities, comprehensive care support, community farming, local employment opportunities, and inclusive leadership roles. With paid carers, volunteer guides, and teachers, families can engage in a supportive environment tailored to their needs.
Membership in this program is more than just a commitment; it’s an invitation to partake in the development of this vision in Bali, paving the way for the creation of a network of reVIVEment villages. These communities are designed to support families in living sustainably, providing a framework for building natural, supportive environments. By co-creating events, the program offers families the opportunity to enjoy supported time off, fostering a broader dialogue aimed at transitioning our everyday lives toward this envisioned reality collectively.
The foundation of this initiative is built on the principles of sustainable living, community support, and environmental care. It encourages the sharing of knowledge, resources, and experiences to create a cohesive network of communities that embody these values. Through active participation, members contribute to a larger movement dedicated to redefining the concept of community living, focusing on reviving rather than just surviving.
This vision extends beyond individual or family benefits; it’s about creating a scalable model that can influence wider societal changes. The emphasis on sustainable practices, combined with the support of a nurturing community, offers a tangible pathway for others to explore and adopt similar lifestyles. Ultimately, this initiative aims to inspire a shift in how communities are formed and function, prioritizing sustainability, support, and collective well-being as cornerstones of living.

The partnership aspect with local families enabling a ‘cooperative venture’ approach is central to this initiative. By weaving together the expertise and resources of the community, the program aims to offer participants a rich, hands-on learning experience. These collaborations not only enhance the learning opportunities for individuals with disabilities / diverse abilities/ special needs but also foster a sense of belonging and contribution among everyone involved.
We aim to co-found and create a post-school program for individuals with special needs as a step towards integrating inclusive community values with practical skill development and cultural immersion. This program is designed to go beyond traditional educational frameworks, focusing on a holistic approach that includes vocational training, social engagement, and cultural exchange within the unique context of Bali’s community and environment.
- Skill development and family partnerships are crucial components, and will enable participants to gain practical skills that are valuable both within and beyond the community. These skills range from bamboo craftsmanship and sustainable farming practices to more general vocational skills tailored to the interests and abilities of each participant.
- Social engagement programs and local staff training will ensure that participants are not only integrated into ‘daily life’ in Bali but also contribute to its cultural and social fabric. This aspect of the program emphasizes the mutual benefits of cultural exchange, allowing participants to learn from the community while sharing their own experiences and perspectives.
This holistic approach to post-school programs for individuals with special needs represents a pioneering effort to blend education, sustainability, and community development in a way that benefits participants and the broader community alike. It embodies a forward-thinking model of education that values diversity, sustainability, and mutual support, paving the way for a more inclusive and sustainable future.
The integration of Bamboo Workshops and Nature-based natural learning programs
underlines the program’s commitment to sustainability and environmental education. These workshops serve as a practical platform for participants to engage with and learn about sustainable practices, and contribute to conservation efforts.
- Outreach Programs extend the impact of the initiative, aiming to raise awareness and engage a wider audience in the program’s goals and activities. These programs are designed to engage more local community projects and involve international student programs and showcase the successes and learning experiences of participants, encouraging a broader dialogue on inclusive education, sustainability, and community development.
Join Our Collaborative Journey: A Unique Opportunity to Invest in Community and Sustainability
We invite collaborations with local and international organisations, foundations, individuals and families to be part of our awesome programs and activities; Using a Timeshare model, we aim to procure investment to support the costs of building, training and physical developments and to cooperatively organise and establish activities and workshops where we can learn together, help each other and play – making a better life for everybody.
This initiative to foster collaborations with local and international organizations, foundations, individuals, and families for the creation of diverse programs and activities is a powerful approach to community development and support. By inviting a range of partners to contribute, we are setting the stage for a rich, multidimensional program that can cater to various needs and interests, ranging from long stay and short stay to day programs. This approach to inclusivity ensures that everyone, regardless of their commitment level or availability, has the opportunity to participate and benefit.
The use of a Timeshare model for investment is an innovative strategy to secure funding for the essential aspects of the program, such as building infrastructure, training staff, and developing physical spaces. This model not only helps in covering the costs associated with these critical areas but also engages investors in a cooperative venture that has tangible outcomes and benefits for all involved. By investing in the program, contributors become part of a community-driven effort that values sustainability, learning, and mutual support.
Organizing and establishing activities and workshops within this framework creates a dynamic environment where learning, helping, and playing go hand in hand. These experiences are designed not just for personal growth but also for fostering a sense of community and interconnectedness. Through shared activities, participants and contributors can exchange knowledge, skills, and cultures, enriching the program and creating a vibrant, supportive community.
This is a vision of making a better life for everybody cooperatively by “helping together”, and learning together through “play”; transforming our mindset to embrace joy in shared experiences. We invite collaboration with like-minded individuals and organizations to join forces in creating meaningful and lasting impact to build a community-focused and inclusive program which can serve as a model for others looking to make a difference in their own communities.

Vital Life Village is a haven where my daughter Freyr, who has intellectual disability and autism, can engage in activities that echo the lively rhythm of village life. Here, she enjoys the comfort of a community, lessening the care burden on me. I find solace in the company of other parents and carers who understand our unique journey, and I get to pursue my passion for natural building and regenerative farming. Freyr, too, blossoms in this setting, finding friends in other families with special needs children, and finding purpose in her role in the local foundation – contributing to the operations of the special hotel and community farm. She benefits from affordable therapies, training, and support tailored for individuals with special needs. Moreover, this project funnels resources towards establishing more such communities with a secure structure and integration with the local community. This gives me the assurance that Freyr will continue to be cared for with love and dedication, in an environment that feels like home to her, even after I’m gone.

Our broader vision entails setting up a not-for-profit company/trading cooperative, FRIENDS OF FREYR. This platform will be open for investment to people with special needs and their families. It is aimed at creating a lifestyle and activity program that includes farming activities, yoga and music program, and community business activities such as hospitality skills (meal preparation, front desk customer service, cleaning, housekeeping, life skills).

We aim to empower our local staff by providing them training to work with disabilities, and to establish local businesses and partnerships to widen our network. We are not just about providing jobs; we strive to create an environment that values inclusivity, understanding, and support. By developing local businesses and partnerships, we hope to expand our network and multiply the impact of our programs.
Our strategy involves elevating the skills of local families, enabling them to independently manage aspects of the disability care and Supported Holiday Program. This not only bolsters the local economy but also encourages family networking and empowers local creators and craftspeople. We will establish a direct marketing channel that minimizes the need for intermediaries and ensures that international members can engage in developing products and small business partnerships within a supportive community framework. We will also introduce a mentoring program aimed at providing further support and guidance to our community members in their entrepreneurial and creative endeavors, and this will be a part of our Post-School Program.
Through mainstream bamboo & natural building workshops & programs (Bamboo Creative Bali), we will construct Bamboo Villa Homestay room prototypes on the land. These will provide accommodation for families and guests coming to participate in our activities. Parents, caregivers and family members can arrange their own accommodations around Gili Meno Island.
Vital Light Village is dedicated to enriching the lives of families with disabilities while giving back to local communities. Our inclusive approach fosters a sense of belonging and empowers caregivers to realize their own potentials.
We work with local and international care/support workers and therapists and can assist with complex needs and nursing care and/or onsite 24-hour medical support, support with visual communication for transitioning and social stories. Care is offered/provided for children as well as adults with special needs disabilities on a full-time or part-time basis.
We invite you to fill out our Revivement Registration Form, visit our Facebook page, join our WhatsApp chat to ask questions, and view the project document.
