We will be building a 6.5m bamboo pavilion with reciprocal low-cost roof at our upcoming Bamboo Program & Live Build in Gili Meno Island in October. Join us to learn the basics of bamboo building and design in the beautiful Gili Meno Island alongside expert bamboo builders from Bali.
We are hosting a FREE 5 day intro starting on 16th October (to 20th October). We will do treatment on the bamboos, make foundations and split and weave bamboo to make panels for mud plaster. (You are responsible for your own accommodation and meals during the program. Lunch will have a communal option and camping is available.)

Now is the 3 week build, design and construction for the Pavilion. Actually the first week from 23rd we will be making furniture to learn joinery at small scale, and then go into model making.
This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to learn the basics of bamboo construction – from basic carpentry for furniture, to designing your own projects and gaining building experience. We will be building a 6.5m pavillion with self-supporting (reciprocal) roof which will be a workshop space for our upcoming disability-inclusive family retreat in November. You will get hands-on experience with the tools and learn different techniques while working with experienced builders (our teachers) who will guide you through the process. You will also have the opportunity to network with other participants and enjoy the beautiful island life of Gili !

The free program will cover some basic design skills for bamboo building and making a foundation for a bamboo structure (5 days). There will be some heavier work involved, and together we will make the foundations for a hexagonal garden cafe (2 days). We will also learn about splitting and weaving bamboo for panels to make into earthen walls (2 days) and about treating bamboo to make it last a long time (1 day).
At the end, you will have acquired some skills to incorporate bamboo into earth-building structures!!!
Following this free 5-day huddle, our Bamboo Building Workshop will take place. Here, we will learn more in-depth joinery and about treatment for bamboo. We will engage in activities to improve our carpentry skills and understanding of bamboo structurally. Additionally, we will explore different types of bamboo, bending techniques, bundle beams and lamination, as well as roofing techniques.

Our general design work and practical programs are aimed at compact, practical housing – comfortable for a small family or as a home-stay. We invite your collaboration with our bamboo builders learning program! Our intention is to incorporate straw bales (using palm fiber) within bamboo framing and see how or if this could work to potentially sound and heat-insulate a bamboo building.
