In March we were invited to Davao in Philippines to share bamboo skills with local tradespeople. Though it was put across as a project involving the local tribe, there wasnt much local tribe involvement at all – though these talented tradespeople we worked with were very appreciative and wonderful to work together with on this building which is our basic A-frame design – aimed at being a first step in relaying bamboo building skills.
We’re intending to return again to Davao in November- to complete another workshop/build at the same site – perhaps with some local tribespeople also. It’s challenging gaining trust with local groups – I think there are enough people coming from outiside to generate some interest and having spoken with the chief of the tribe and having him visit the training group – they might be interested enough to participate now.
This time we will focus on building a small design/cottage – and.depending of the brief and materials available.
